Torquay and Geelong NightJar Festivals

The NightJar began in all its innocence, in 2010 – we had no idea then that our vision of a little night market would become such a huge success and an essential part of the community! Creators, Lyndelle and Kyla, spend their days collaborating on ideas, becoming inspired, and dreaming up wonderful new experiences to keep you coming back to the Nightjar Festival year after year.

NightJar (named after a local owlet that lives on the land) is set by the ocean nestled amongst the trees along the riverbank. It is a vibrant, colourful and eclectic mix of a night market, music festival, showcase for emerging designers, art exhibition, and soul.

Many attending the festival have described it as entering into another world. We encourage you to leave your worries at the gate, step inside and celebrate life, family, friends, music, dancing and shopping. As music lovers at the NightJar we are proud to provide a platform on the Moon Mother stage for a wide variety of independent, progressive and down right talented musicians who will keep your toes tapping for hours.

The alcohol area has a great vibe where local brewer and Major Sponsor of Nightjar Festival Blackman’s Brewery is sold on tap over the Driftwood bar. While eating your dinner and enjoying a drink you can watch as amazing ice sculptor Mark Trinham creates magic from a huge block of ice. Not forgetting the gaggle of little “NightJarers” that love the festival, we have a magical new kids area that is bound to be in many a sweet dream of our little visitors! And lastly for those that just want to chill out, have a cuppa and watch the festival go by, there is the stunning Rajasthan wedding tent decorated like an exotic maharajah’s teahouse.

In 2014 the NightJar ventured into Geelong. Our dedicated and awesome NightJar crew pulled up its pegs at the end of January and moved into Geelong for Friday nights in February. The very beautiful Johnstone Park, located in the central hub of Geelong, is now the home to “NightJar in the City”. The festival is smaller, a little more intimate and has a great vibrant city vibe. Still bustling with the NightJar atmosphere, arts, music, food and designers, NightJar at Johnstone Park is the place to end the working week.

We love what we do and we plan to be entertaining, surprising and inspiring you for many years to come.
